Taj Mahal and Keb' Mo'

Taj Mahal was one of a very few Black artists recording blues in the 1960s, a time when most African American musicians turned to soul and gospel. Since his debut album in 1968, Taj Mahal has released more than 50 albums. His collaborators include Ry Cooder, Blind Boys of Alabama, Keb’ Mo’ and musicians from Hawaii and Africa. Singer, guitarist, harmonica player and songwriter, he has influenced generations of blues musicians. Keb’ Mo’ represents a further continuation of the blues tradition. An African American artist 10 years younger than Taj Mahal, he has released 19 albums and has five Grammy nominations. We will explore the careers and music of these two masters of the blues.
