OLLI Road Trip: The Napa River Revealed

From the historic Mare Island-Vallejo waterfront to tidal salt-marshes along the Napa River, discover a vibrant landscape, teeming with life.

Our group will travel from Davis to Vallejo by luxury motorcoach. Our large passenger boat tour begins on the Vallejo waterfront, across from historic Mare Island and will thread through a diverse ecosystem upriver as we sail north into portions of the Napa River estuary you cannot see by car. Together, we'll learn more on the history of this area and its significance as a legendary shipping channel.

Sailing upriver, learn why the tidal wetlands along the Napa River have become the focus of a pioneering effort to reverse years of poor  conservation and how the millions invested in restoration are breathing new life into the land. In fact, the entire river is being restored as a "living river” bringing meaningful growth in in the population and variety of birds seen close at hand. See seasonal waterfowl, egrets, peregrine falcons, and local fauna such as river otters, beavers, gray fox and deer.

We'll enjoy beverage service and a catered lunch during our voyage.
