Previous Accounting Certificates

Accounting Essentials Certificate (No longer offered as of July 2019)

The Accounting Essentials Certificate Program was designed for those wanting to understand current accounting standards and procedures in order to meet financial accountability requirements, advance to higher professional levels, strengthen business practices or improve their organization’s bottom line. In this program students learned to:

  • Prepare, interpret and present financial statements
  • Understand methods to analyze and interpret data
  • Use accounting principles to develop, manage and expand business

The program covered 24 quarter units (the equivalent of 16 semester units) of coursework, and included the following courses:

  • Required Courses
    • Principles of Financial Accounting
    • Principles of Cost Accounting
    • Intermediate Accounting Part 1
    • Intermediate Accounting Part 2
  • Elective Courses (2 needed)
  • Financial Statement Analysis
  • Accounting for Government and Nonprofit Organizations
  • Auditing
  • Individual Income Taxation
  • Ethics in Accounting
  • Business Law
  • Forensic Accounting

Accounting CPA Exam Track Certificate (No longer offered as of July 2019)

The primary goal of the Accounting CPA Exam Track Certificate Program was to teach students the knowledge and core competencies to sit for the CPA exam and to prepare them for a senior level position in accounting. In this program students:

  • Gained an understanding of concepts and theories underlying current best practices in accounting
  • Developed the analytical skills necessary to evaluate accounting and reporting methods, examine audit processes and develop internal control processes and procedures
  • Learned to expand accounting applications to a wide variety of business and financial settings

The program covered the 36 quarter units (the equivalent of 24 semester units) of accounting education requirements to sit for the CPA exam, and included the following courses:

  • Required Courses
    • Principles of Financial Accounting
    • Principles of Cost Accounting
    • Intermediate Accounting Part 1
    • Intermediate Accounting Part 2
  • Elective Courses (5 needed)
    • Financial Statement Analysis
    • Accounting for Government and Nonprofit Organizations
